About This Call
The Napa Lighted Art Festival seeks artists and designer collaboratives to submit proposals for light-based installations. Approximately 15 installations will be selected to receive stipends between $2,000-$4,500. Artists from all disciplines are encouraged to apply, and both individual artists and collaborative groups are welcome.
The festival emphasizes innovative use of light as the primary artistic medium. Light itself should be essential to the concept; artworks where light merely illuminates are not sought. Proposals may include light sculptures, light art, video art, 3D video mapping projections, LED, fiber optics, custom gobo designs, interactive works, lasers, and other light-based technologies. Both new works and existing pieces that meet festival themes and criteria are accepted. Work samples should include 2-10 images and up to 8 videos.
The festival will run mid-January through mid-February 2023 in downtown Napa's various sites and buildings. Festival hours are Sunday-Thursday 6:00-9:00 p.m. and Friday-Saturday 6:00-10:00 p.m. All installations must be operational for the entire duration of festival hours each night. Artists should consider the outdoor environment, pedestrian accessibility, and ADA compliance when proposing projects. Digital artwork must be uploaded by December 7, 2022, and physical installations must arrive and be installed by January 13, 2023. Artists retain copyright and ownership of their work. The festival reserves the right to reproduce images for publicity and marketing purposes, and may re-exhibit selected digital artwork in future years.
