About This Call
The 2021 Napa Lighted Art Festival is seeking artists and designer collaboratives to submit proposals for light-based installations. Approximately 15 installations will be selected to receive stipends between $2,000-$4,500. The festival will take place January 9-17, 2021 in downtown Napa, with hours Monday-Thursday 6:00-9:00 p.m. and Friday-Sunday 6:00-10:00 p.m. An artist reception is scheduled for January 8th, 2021.
Artwork must embody the festival's core concepts: innovative, contemporary, uplifting, inspiring, and imaginative. Light itself must be the actual artwork with light being essential to the concept; light used only to illuminate work is not acceptable. The festival encourages new technologies and innovative use of light. Acceptable genres and technologies include light art, video art, 3D video mapping projections, light sculptures, LED, fiber optics, custom gobo designs, interactive works, and lasers. Existing works are welcome if they meet festival themes and criteria.
Submissions must include 1-10 images, 0-6 audio files, and 0-6 video files (12 total samples maximum). Artists may submit up to 2 applications. Digital artwork must be uploaded by December 7, 2020, and lighted sculptures must arrive by January 4, 2021. All works must be rigidly constructed to withstand winter weather conditions and remain operational for all festival hours across nine nights. Sound is encouraged when possible. Installations will be positioned in pedestrian zones, sidewalks, parking lots, or park-like settings along the downtown corridor, viewable from approximately 50-100 feet. Technical specifications and budget allocations vary by site location. Artists maintain copyright and ownership of their work. The submission deadline is September 1, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. MDT.
