About This Call
The 2020 Napa Lighted Art Festival is seeking approximately 15 light-based art installations for a free, open-air festival in downtown Napa. Artists and artist collaborative groups from all disciplines are encouraged to apply. Selected artists will receive a stipend between $2,000-$4,500.
The festival celebrates innovative techniques using light and light technologies as a growing art medium. Light itself must be essential to the artwork concept; light used only to illuminate an artwork is not acceptable. Submissions may include light art, video art, 3D video mapping projections, light sculptures, LED, fiber optics, custom gobo designs, interactive works, lasers, and other light-based genres. Artwork should embody the 2020 festival theme of "Renew" and the core concepts of innovative, contemporary, uplifting, inspiring, and imaginative work. Both new and existing works are welcome if they meet festival themes and criteria.
Festival dates are January 11-19, 2020, with hours Monday-Thursday 6:00-9:00 p.m. and Friday-Sunday 6:00-10:00 p.m. An artist reception is scheduled for January 10, 2020. Installations will be located at various sites and buildings in the Napa Downtown Area. Artists must consider the outdoor environment, pedestrian zones, and audiences of all ages and abilities, including ADA compliance. All works must be structurally rigid and durable to withstand winter weather conditions. Digital artwork must be uploaded by December 2, 2019; lighted sculptures must arrive by January 6, 2020. Submissions should include 2-10 images and up to 8 videos. Artists retain copyright and ownership of their work. The festival reserves the right to reproduce images for publicity and marketing purposes and may re-exhibit selected artwork in future years. Contact: [email protected]
