About This Call
The inaugural 2017 Napa Lighted Art Festival (December 9-17, 2017) invites artists and designers from all disciplines to submit proposals for light-based installations. The festival will be a free open-air event in downtown Napa, open daily from 5:00-10:00 p.m. Approximately 10-15 installations will be selected to receive a $2,000 artist stipend. The festival celebrates innovative techniques using light and light technologies as a growing art medium. Light itself should be the actual artwork, with its role essential to the concept. Submissions may include light art, video art, 3D video mapping projections, and projects using technology or interactivity.
Artwork must be technically feasible, rigid, and durable to withstand winter weather conditions in Napa. Sound is not permitted. All works must be available by November 10, 2017, with installation occurring November 27 through December 8. Artwork will be positioned in pedestrian zones, sidewalks, parking lots, or park-like settings throughout the downtown corridor, viewable from approximately 50-100 feet. Submissions must include artist info and resume/CV, artwork images (2-6 images or 1-3 videos), image list and description, and a budget worksheet. A distinguished jury panel will evaluate submissions based on artistic impact, creativity, alignment with the festival's core concepts (Innovative, Contemporary, Uplifting, Inspiring, Imaginative), and how the work contributes to a cohesive exhibition. Selected artists will be notified October 2-6, 2017. Artists maintain copyright of their work; the festival reserves the right to reproduce images for publicity and marketing purposes. All artists are encouraged to attend the artist reception on December 9, 2017, with discounted accommodations available at specified hotels.
