About This Call
The City of Napa is seeking up to 10 temporary installations for the seventh Napa Art Walk outdoor art exhibit. The Napa Art Walk is a curated walking tour program that showcases regularly rotating installation art throughout downtown Napa. This program is designed to enhance the local environment and promote the understanding and enjoyment of public art. Collections rotate every two years; the 2021-2023 exhibition will be the seventh rotation in this program.
All pieces submitted for the seventh Napa Art Walk should integrate and embody a work centered around the theme "Play." Using kinetic art, movement and/or light to define dimensions and interaction in space, this art should contain symbolic movement or require motion for its effects. Artists must provide a short written statement (up to 150 words) explaining how their piece addresses and illustrates the theme. This opportunity is open to established professional artists residing or working in AZ, CA, CO, NM, NV, OR, UT, ID or WA; age 18 and older. All submissions must be previously completed artworks. No artwork proposals for yet-to-be-created art will be accepted.
Artworks will remain on view for approximately two years (July 2021 – April 2023). Community members and visitors may vote online to select one artwork for the "People's Choice Award," announced in spring prior to close of the exhibit. The winner receives a Proclamation from the Napa City Council and gifts from local merchants and hospitality partners. Each selected artist will receive an Artist Honorarium of $2,000 to assist with transportation, travel and other expenses, paid upon artwork installation in 2021. Work sample requirements: 1-10 images, 0-5 audio files, 0-5 video files, with a maximum of 20 total samples. Site specifications include various concrete pad sizes (Large Square: 12" high x 60" long x 60" wide; Medium Square: 12" high x 48" long x 48" wide; Large Rectangular: 12" high x 96" long x 36" wide; Medium Rectangular: 12" high x 65" long x 36" wide; Round: 16" high x 30" diameter). Artworks must weigh no more than 2000 pounds. All artwork may be listed for sale during the exhibition with permission from the artist; the City will collect a 10% commission on all sales.
