About This Call
The City of Napa invites artists to submit sculptures for the fifth Napa Art Walk exhibit, a program designed to enhance the public environment and promote public art in downtown Napa on a temporary basis.
Theme: "Shifting Perspective." The City seeks artworks that demonstrate the power of perspective—art that changes depending upon how, when, and where it is viewed; art presented in an atypical environment, scale, or context; art that forces viewers to pause, reflect, or take note. Artists must provide a short written statement (up to 150 words) explaining how their sculpture addresses the theme. Artworks will remain on view for approximately two years (July 2017–April 2019). Community members and visitors may vote online to select one artwork for the "People's Choice Award," which includes a Proclamation from the Napa City Council and gifts from local merchants and hospitality partners.
Up to 15 locations will be finalized along primary pedestrian corridors in downtown Napa, all within walking distance of one another. Site specifications include concrete pads in various sizes (Large Square: 12" high x 60" x 60"; Medium Square: 12" high x 48" x 48"; Large Rectangular: 12" high x 96" x 36"; Medium Rectangular: 12" high x 65" x 36"; Round: 16" high x 30" diameter). Artworks must weigh no more than 2,000 pounds and securely attach to pads with bolts or brackets. Artists are responsible for all hardware and installation. An installation template/plan is required; submissions without one will be disqualified. Entry fee: $20. Submit 1–9 images. All artwork may be listed for sale with permission; the City collects a 10% commission on sales.
