Mystery, Magic & the Macabre

The Deines Cultural Center announces a Call for Entry for its third annual Mystery, Magic & Macabre Juried Exhibition. This exhibition celebrates talented and innovative artists whose work is thoughtful, imaginative, and offers unique portrayals of the dark, the mysterious, and the mystical. Depictions of graphic violence will not be accepted. The competition awards more than $1500 in prizes.

This year's juror is magical realism painter Rodney Wood. His art career has included work as a gallery owner, bronze foundry worker, teacher, curator, preparator, jewelry designer, and marketing director/consultant. His past work focused on mixed media sculpture, jewelry, and metalsmithing, with solo exhibitions in photography, drawing, printmaking, and sculpture. He has focused on painting for the last 10+ years.

Eligibility: Open to artists 18 years or older living in the United States. All 2D and 3D mediums accepted. Entries must be original works completed within the last three years and have not been previously exhibited in the Deines Gallery. All works must be for sale, and no entry previously sold may be borrowed for entry. Two-dimensional works must be framed and wired for hanging; works without wiring will not be accepted or will be wired at the artist's expense. No substitution, exchange, modification, or withdrawal of works is permitted after acceptance.

Entry Fee: $35.00 (plus $5.00 per additional media). Submit 1-3 images online. Artists will be notified September 10th, 2023. All accepted work must be received by October 14th, 2023. The exhibition runs October 21-November 22, 2023. Awards will be announced at the opening reception on October 22nd, 2023. Those unable to attend will be notified via email on October 23rd, 2023.
