Mutable Permanence: 80th Anniversary Art Competition

The Coral Gables Museum is celebrating its building's 80th Anniversary with an art competition for visual artists. The competition invites artworks that reflect on the keystone building that once hosted the Coral Gables Police and Fire Station and is currently home to the Museum. Artists may consider all aspects of the building either as it was in 1938 when conceived, or as it is now—from architectural, historical, civic, and sculptural perspectives.

Finalists will be invited to participate in an exhibition at the Museum opening Friday, February 1, 2019. A closing reception will take place Monday, February 25, 2019, where prize recipients will be announced. Cash prizes: 1st Place $1,500, 2nd Place $1,000, 3rd Place $500. Artwork will be judged by an independent panel of qualified jurors.

This competition is open to all visual artists working in any medium and technique, including painting, printmaking, sculpture, photography, digital art, multi-media, and mixed media. Artwork selected for exhibition must be ready to display; the Museum will not provide framing or other display services. Two-dimensional works must have the largest side no larger than 40 inches and smallest side no smaller than 20 inches. Three-dimensional works must have maximum length on either side no longer than 40 inches and weight no larger than 50 pounds. Digital images must not exceed 2MB and must be titled using the convention: SurnameName_Title.jpeg. Incomplete caption information will result in rejection. Maximum three works per artist. Selected artworks must be dropped off Monday, January 28 or Tuesday, January 29, 2019, between 10:00am and 4:00pm. Works are available for pickup at the end of the closing reception on February 25 and through Thursday, February 28 (10am–4pm). Works not picked up by Friday, March 15 will be considered abandoned. The Museum will not insure selected artworks and is not responsible for damage during shipping, installation, or exhibition. Entry fee: $25.00.
