About This Call

Musical is an exhibition that showcases artwork relating to the art of music through subject matter, medium, or composition. The exhibition is open to SF Bay Area artists only (within 100 miles from San Rafael, California). All visual arts media are welcome, though video submissions must provide player and monitor, and projections are prohibited. This exhibition is for visual artists only; audio recordings, sheet music, and musical instruments are not accepted.

Eligibility and Requirements: Original artwork only. Reproductions or artworks previously exhibited in the 1337 Gallery are prohibited. Individual artworks must not exceed six feet in any dimension. The entry fee is $40 for up to 3 entries, with a 50% discount for AWD Artist Members. Submissions are made through callforentry.org. Accepted work must be hand-delivered to Art Works Downtown, 1337 Fourth St., San Rafael, on Saturday, August 6, between 11am–4pm. Wall-hung work must be securely wired. Artists must deliver an artist statement and resume and sign a consignment contract upon delivery.

Exhibition Schedule: Notification of acceptance will be sent by email on Friday or Saturday, July 22 or 23. The reception is Friday, August 12, 5–8pm, with a second reception on Friday, September 9, 5–8pm. Unsold artwork may be picked up Saturday, September 17, 10am–4pm. Art Works Downtown accepts a 40% donation upon sale. Works not retrieved will be charged a storage fee of $1.00 per day; works remaining after 30 days become property of Art Works Downtown. Jurors are Donna Seager (co-owner of Seager/Gray Gallery, Mill Valley) and Paul Liberatore (music and pop culture writer for the Marin Independent Journal).
