Music: An Esther Rolle Inspired Exhibition

The Ali Cultural Arts Center, part of the Downtown Pompano Creative Arts District, celebrates the history and culture of the African American community in Pompano Beach and enhances local access to the cultural arts with a focus on dance, music, and the spoken word, including poetry, storytelling, and theater.

The City of Pompano Beach is inviting artists nationwide to submit original artworks to celebrate Esther Rolle's participation in the musical artform. In 1975, acclaimed actress of stage and television Esther Rolle released an album entitled "The Garden of My Mind," which reflected on her experiences growing up as the daughter of a Florida bean farmer and the 10th of 18 children, exploring themes of love, sorrow, defeats, and triumphs.

Submit up to three digital images via callforentry.org. Entry fee is $10.00. Artworks must have been completed in the last ten years. The call is open to nationwide artists. Submission deadline is August 7, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Notifications of acceptance will be sent via email. Exhibition dates are October 28, 2022 through February 9, 2023.
