About This Call
The Murray Convention & Visitors Bureau seeks artists to create a mural on the south-facing wall of Highway 121 South at the Murray CVB office. The wall is approximately 40 feet long and ranges from 14 feet tall in the front to 12 feet toward the back. The location is highly visible as one of the first buildings visitors see entering downtown from the south, facing directly onto a high-traffic, two-lane state highway. A site visit is recommended but not required.
The mural should address themes of Murray, including "Feels like Home," welcome, friendly, university town, vibrant and friendly. Designs must be family-friendly, suitable for public display, and free of safety hazards. No political, sexual, crude, or water/lake scene designs will be accepted. Artwork should be sensitive to the diverse history, culture and demographics of the community, resistant to graffiti and vandalism, require minimal maintenance, and have an expected lifespan of 8-10 years.
Applications must be submitted electronically by June 17, 2022 and include: current CV/resume, letter of interest (one page maximum), 3-10 images of previously completed large-scale outdoor murals with detailed information for each, three professional references with contact details, and a site-specific proposal including the proposed visual image, description of materials and protective coatings, and itemized budget. The mural must be installed and completed between July 2, 2022 and August 31, 2022. Eligible applicants must be 18 or older, currently living in the regional area, have worker's compensation and liability insurance, and adhere to the project timeline. The project budget is $20,000.
