About This Call
The City of Coral Springs Public Art Committee is commissioning an artist for a large mural at the Coral Springs Museum of Art's new downtown space, located on the corner of Sample Road and University Drive within the Cornerstone development. The museum is a cultural beacon serving Broward, Palm Beach, and Miami-Dade counties. The mural wall is located along the main sidewalk on Sample Road on the exterior of the museum, in a high-traffic area at the heart of Coral Springs near City Hall, residential apartments, businesses, and restaurants.
The artwork must use the full height and width of the available wall space (approximately 17 feet in height by 64 feet in width). The artwork should be engaging, encourage pedestrian activity, and have a dramatic visual aspect. The mural must be completed by February 1, 2026. The total project budget is $75,000, which must cover all fees, labor, transportation, installation costs, permitting, lighting, site work, and any costs associated with lodging or travel for the dedication ceremony. The selected artist will make recommendations to the city regarding the design of the permanent site and present a public lecture regarding public art.
The call is open to professional visual artists with experience implementing their ideas and work in the public realm. Selection criteria include appropriateness of the artwork to program goals and site conditions, artist experience and qualifications, quality of work, artist location, commissioning costs, technical feasibility and timeline capability, and safety and maintenance requirements. Artwork must be durable, meet insurance requirements, be resistant to theft and vandalism, include UV resistant sealant, meet Florida Building Code standards, and meet Hurricane Resistant Requirements. Application requirements include a one-page letter of intent, professional resume, proposed concept sketch (scaled plan with elevations and perspectives, no larger than 11" x 17"), itemized project budget worksheet, up to ten digital color images of representative work with annotated image list, and a detailed maintenance plan with color and material specifications. Selected artists must attend the dedication ceremony in person and grant permission to the City to capture videos of the work being created.
