About This Call

Housing Catalyst and the Fort Collins Downtown Development Authority are seeking qualifications from experienced and professional artists or teams of artists to complete two murals on a new building in Old Town, Fort Collins. Oak 140, located at 143 Remington St., Fort Collins, CO 80524, is a five-story mixed-use development consisting of 79 apartments, office space, a lobby, and a parking garage.

Mural 1 is located at the northeast corner facing Mountain Ave (north-facing), measuring 26' tall x 6' wide (156 sq. ft.), positioned on the 2nd-4th story. Mural 2 is located at the southwest corner facing College Ave (west-facing), also measuring 26' tall x 6' wide (156 sq. ft.), positioned on the 2nd-4th story. Both murals will be painted on new smooth stucco. Murals must be of the highest quality, unique and innovative, complement one another, signify the importance of affordable housing and its value to the community, create a visual and cultural connection between the site and the community, and spark interest and exploration for residents, visitors and pedestrians. Murals must be completed in five weeks.

Artists are responsible for priming and preparing the location, sealing and protecting murals, acquiring all materials, equipment and tools, complying with all applicable laws and building codes, obtaining necessary liability insurance, and preparing a detailed budget and project timeline. The total project budget is $30,000, which must include all materials, tools, equipment, liability insurance, and travel expenses. Short-listed artists will present their concept to the board in person (20 minutes presentation followed by 30-minute Q&A). Each non-selected short-listed artist will receive a $250 stipend. Artist work begins September 1, 2022, with completion required by October 6, 2022. Applicants must submit a resume (2-page max), 3 images of completed murals with an accompanying image sheet detailing artist name, title, location, dimensions, project cost, and date of creation, and a reference sheet with three references including name, phone, email, and project information. This opportunity is open to any artist/s residing in the United States.
