About This Call
The City of Frisco Public Art Program is issuing a Request for Qualifications for a public art opportunity at the Municipal Court. The City seeks qualifications from artists for a public art project within the newly converted Municipal Court building. This opportunity is open to all artists.
The Municipal Court public art project involves creating artwork that will hang from the ceiling in the lobby. A 29 ft x 16 ft area has been designated for the project, with a maximum weight of 4,640 lbs and artwork not exceeding 5 ft in length from the drop ceiling. Artists are encouraged to consider law, democracy, and the history of Frisco and/or Texas as themes. The artwork should welcome visitors to the space, provide the opportunity for quiet reflection, and reflect the significance of court proceedings while considering the appropriate traditional decorum of courts. The artwork must be made of low-maintenance, durable materials resistant to vandalism and must be installed by August 2021. The project budget is $100,000.00 all-inclusive, covering artist fee, fabrication costs, transportation, insurance, engineering services, permit fees, site prep, installation, and related expenses.
Applications must be submitted online via www.callforentry.org by 4:00 p.m. CDT on Thursday, May 7, 2020. Required submissions include a completed cover page, typed cover letter describing interest in the project, artist resume with current contact information, artist statement, three references with contact information, and no more than 15 images of past work (with the first five being most relevant to this RFQ). The Artist Selection Committee will evaluate qualifications based on demonstrated excellence of past work, quality of professional qualifications and relevant experience, stated interest and approach specific to the project, and ability to create work meeting project goals. Finalists may be requested to develop proposals or be interviewed. Questions should be submitted to Stephen Ross at [email protected] by 4:00 p.m. CDT on Friday, April 17, 2020, with answers posted via addendum at friscotexas.bonfirehub.com.
