About This Call

The Mudhouse is an artist residency located in the village of Agios Ioannis on the Island of Crete, Greece. The residency aims to provide artists inspiration derived from engagement with the natural beauty of the environment, solitude to foster creative growth, an artistic community to enrich professional practices, and an immersive cultural experience within a rich historical context.

The General Application allows artists to choose from three residency fee tiers. The residency fee includes accommodations, studio space, and two meals each day for the two-week duration. Artists are responsible for their own travel to the residency and daily stipend for groceries, art supplies, or excursions outside the village. Full residency fee: $4400. Partial fellowship: $3600. Partial fellowship with additional stipend: $2800 (artists selected for this tier will perform a job during their residency, including studio maintenance, exhibition crew, or tech assistance). One-third of residencies each year are partially funded, and one-third are partially funded with an additional stipend.

Submission deadline: April 1, 2026. Entry fee: $10. Open to Craft/Traditional Arts, Photography, Drawing, Film/Video/New Media, Mixed-Media/Multi-Discipline, Painting, and Sculpture.
