About This Call
The Broward Cultural Council Public Art and Design Program is seeking to commission a professional artist or team of artists to create an original interactive artwork for the moving walkway spaces connecting Concourse A to Concourse B in Terminal 1 of Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport. The artwork will be located in a 700 ft long x 30 ft wide bridge and should create a unique sensory experience through the use of sound, light, video, or other creative and innovative methods. The artwork must be permanent, low maintenance, and in compliance with safety regulations. It is not limited to any specific surface.
The project is open to all professional artists working in any media, including traditional fine arts, multimedia arts, and design arts. Artists must be able to work effectively within an aggressive project timeline and collaborate with the architect of record, general contractor, and multiple governmental and community groups. The total budget for the project is $500,000, which includes all costs: research, community and agency meeting costs, design, materials, fabrication, installation, insurance, proposals, travel, sales tax, and transportation. The anticipated artist selection is June 2008, with design completion by December 2008 and design installation from May–August 2009.
Applications must be submitted via CaFÉ at www.CallForEntry.org and must include: a letter of interest outlining the artist's approach to public art and relevant past experience; a professional résumé including public art experience with past project budgets; 10 digital images of recent work with an annotated image list; and contact information. Hard copy materials will not be accepted. The application deadline is Friday, May 9, 2008 at 12:00 Midnight Mountain Standard Time. For questions, contact Christina Roldan, Public Art and Design Project Manager, at (954) 357-8542 or [email protected].
