About This Call
The Salina Art Center seeks submissions from artists of all contemporary media currently working in the Mountain-Plains region of the United States for a biennial exhibition of contemporary art. The Salina Art Center is a nonprofit, contemporary art and education center with the mission "to create exchanges among art, artists, and audiences that reveal life." Located in historic downtown Salina, Kansas, the Art Center is accredited by the American Alliance of Museums.
Artists may submit up to 3 works for consideration, with up to 3 image files, 1 audio file, and 1 video file per artwork. A written statement (not to exceed 1000 characters) about the artist's work and practice must be included. The entry fee is $35. Work completed in 2022 or 2023 in any medium is eligible; work completed prior to 2022 will not be considered. Eligibility is open to artists working in the Mountain-Plains region (Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, and Wyoming). Staff and board members of the Salina Art Center may submit but are not eligible to receive award compensation.
The exhibition runs May 22 - September 1, 2024, following a $1M facility remodel. Awards totaling $3500 will be selected by juror Jane Burke (curator at the Boulder Museum of Contemporary Art): $2000 for First, $1000 for Second, and $500 for Third. Award recipients will be announced during the opening reception on May 23rd. Acceptance notification is March 15, 2024. Selected artworks must be delivered or shipped to the Salina Art Center (242 S. Santa Fe Ave, Salina KS, 67401) by May 10, 2024. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs and in-transit insurance. Work must be picked up or returned by September 13, 2024. The Art Center will insure exhibited work under its fine art policy.
