Mountain Maryland Plein Air Competition & Exhibition 2017

Mountain Maryland Plein Air is a national competition and exhibition hosted by Allegany Arts Council. Applicants must submit 3 digital images of plein air artwork and a 200-word maximum biography through the CaFé system by February 12, 2017 at midnight Mountain Standard Time. The entry fee is $40. If selected, applicants must provide a photo for use in the event booklet and website. A total of 30 artists will be invited to participate based on juror Barbara Jaenicke's evaluation of submitted images.

Invited artists will be featured in an exhibition during the event week (June 19-25, 2017) and are encouraged to participate in optional events including a Quick Draw on Saturday with no registration fee. Artists are responsible for their own lodging, though community members have agreed to host participating artists. The Saville Gallery will retain a 40% commission on all artwork sold during the event, with artwork insured for 60% of its retail value during the exhibition.

The event schedule includes check-in and orientation on June 19 at 9 a.m., painting throughout Mountain Maryland June 19-23, submission of two paintings for awards judging by 9 a.m. on June 23, a Collector's Opening on June 23 from 5-7 p.m., a Quick Draw event on June 24 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., a public opening on June 24 from 7-9 p.m., and work pickup on June 25 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. A workshop with juror Barbara Jaenicke is scheduled for June 25.
