About This Call
Mount Dora Center for the Arts invites all artists to participate in a juried art exhibit and competition exploring ethnic diversity in art. Submitted artwork should reflect the essence of cultures transformed by their environments and influences in the modern world. Selected artwork will be displayed in a 3-week gallery exhibition coinciding with the Mount Dora Viva la FRIDA Festival on September 30, 2023, in Mount Dora, Florida.
Visual artists are encouraged to submit fine art in 2D and 3D formats. Awards include 1st Place - $500, 2nd Place - $200, 3rd Place - $100, and honorable mention ribbons. Artists are invited to showcase their personal stories and cultural heritage while expressing the colorful uniqueness and moral complexities that Frida Kahlo represented. Artists from any cultural background are welcome to bring their own perspective to the theme.
Entry deadline is August 30, 2023, at 5 p.m. Entry fee is $25 for up to 5 pieces of artwork; a maximum of 2 pieces will be accepted from each artist. Artwork must be limited to 30 inches maximum on the long side. Notifications will be emailed September 4, 2023. Accepted artwork must be delivered September 18-19, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., to MDCA Gallery, 138 E. 5th Ave., Mount Dora, FL 32757. The exhibition runs September 22 - October 8, 2023. Artists' Reception and Awards Ceremony is Friday, September 22, 2023, 5-7 p.m. All unsold artwork must be picked up October 9-10, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All artwork in the exhibit must be for sale; the gallery takes a 35% commission on works sold. 2D works must be properly prepared with wire securely attached. 3D works must be able to stand solid on their own if not wall pieces. AI-generated works will not be accepted. Artists need not be in Florida to participate. Shipping costs are the artist's responsibility if artwork cannot be delivered in person; a pre-printed, paid shipping label for return shipment must be included with reusable packaging. Images of artwork may be used in publicity materials.
