About This Call
Foothills Art Center (FAC) in partnership with Colorado Mosaic Arts presents a national juried exhibition featuring modern mosaic art. Mosaics 2022 – As Seen Through New Eyes showcases contemporary fine art mosaics that use an ancient language with contemporary translation. While traditional mosaics are fashioned from marble, stone, and glass, contemporary mosaicists can include an extensive palette of unique, contemporary materials. The exhibition aims to broaden the view of mosaic art by inviting artists to see this age-old art form through present-day eyes.
The exhibition is open to all artists working in contemporary mosaics living in the United States. Entry fee is $35, with up to 3 works permitted per artist (0 to 3 works may be accepted). Artwork must be original designs completed within the past two years (2020-2022), for sale (FAC retains 30% commission), and not previously shown at FAC. Reproductions of ancient mosaics and copyrighted material are not permitted. Wall mosaics must be mounted to vertical flat surfaces, measure no wider than 36 inches total, and weigh no more than 40 lbs, with all hardware ready for hanging. Free-standing mosaics must measure no more than 36 inches in any dimension and weigh no more than 40 lbs, installation ready with instructions if necessary.
Work will be co-juried by nationally known mosaic artist Yulia Hanansen and Eriq Hochuli, Curator of Foothills Art Center. The exhibition runs July 30 – October 2, 2022, with an artist reception on July 29, 5pm-7pm. A two-day workshop on Layered Glass Mosaics led by juror Yulia Hanansen is scheduled for July 30-31. Awards totaling $2,500 include: Best in Show ($1,000), Technical Distinction ($500), Contemporary Innovation ($500), and two Juror's Awards ($250 each). Digital submission deadline is June 1, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MDT, with artist notification by June 15, 2022. Artwork pickup is October 3, 2022, 10am-2pm.
