About This Call
The Society of American Mosaic Artists (SAMA) invites artists working in mosaic media to submit applications to Mosaic Arts International (MAI) 2024: Fine Art & Site-Specific Mosaic. This juried exhibition presents the best in contemporary fine art mosaics from SAMA's diverse international membership and is held in conjunction with SAMA's annual conference. The exhibition will be presented at two venues: Janice Charach Gallery in West Bloomfield, Michigan (August 25 – September 22, 2024) and Belger Crane Yard Gallery in Kansas City, Missouri (October 4, 2024 – January 4, 2025). All segments combined represent a total of between 35–60 artists.
Each artist may enter up to three original works per segment for a total maximum of six entries. Entry fee is $20 per work. Submissions must include 1–4 images per entry (one primary image and up to three detail images). For Fine Art entries, artists must provide title, 300-word artist statement, height, width, weight, year created, total sales price (or Not-for-Sale), segment and subcategory designation, and materials list. Fine Art categories include Wall Mosaics (mounted to vertical surfaces, maximum 100 lbs., no wider than 50 inches) and Free-Standing Mosaics (sculptural or three-dimensional works; maximum 100 lbs. on pedestal, 150 lbs. on floor). For Site-Specific entries, artists must provide title, 300-word artist statement, height, width, weight, year created, installation location (city, state, country), and materials list. Site-Specific Mosaic is defined as work permanently affixed to its intended environment, including public/private commissions, community projects, large-scale sculpture, and surface design.
Artwork must be sturdy and ready for hanging or installation. Wall mosaics cannot use sawtooth hangers or pressed wood frames; hanging wire and frame grommets must be well-secured and weight-appropriate. Images must be submitted as JPG files sized at 1200 px on the long side and no larger than 5MB per file. Digitally altered images may be disqualified. The entry deadline is July 23, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Entries are accepted from international artists and members of the Stained Glass Association of America (SGAA).
