About This Call

The Town of Morristown, in collaboration with Morris Arts, seeks a professional visual artist or artist team to create public artwork within one of the most diverse and prominent redevelopment areas in the Town. The project is located at Prospect and Early Streets adjacent to a new 185-unit luxury apartment complex. The public art will be situated in a green space area that will be utilized by residents and the public, including children and pets. The adjacent buildings are five stories in height. Installation is scheduled for Spring 2019.

A budget of $45,000 is available for this project, which includes all fees and expenses associated with the project (materials, equipment, labor, permits, engineering documents, insurance, taxes, travel, installation, shipping, identification plaque, and written and professional photographic documentation of the completed project). The public art should be viewed as a destination in and of itself, as well as a part of the aesthetic of the new residential development and the neighborhood. The Public Arts Program speaks to Morristown's rich history of innovation and celebrates the ideas of energy, movement and transformation.

This project is open to all artists. New York Tri-State area artists are strongly encouraged to apply, as are professional artists with previous experience completing public art projects of similar budgets and scales. Proposals will be reviewed and evaluated by the designated Public Art Advisory Committee. Final selection of artist is scheduled for on or after January 19, 2019. Submission requirements include biography, resume (not to exceed 1 page), previous public art work samples (no fewer than 2 or more than 7 samples), letter of interest (500-word maximum), photos/sketch/drawing of artwork intended for the space, and at least two references with contact information from previous public art projects.
