About This Call

The Morean Center for Clay (MCC) is located in the Historic Train Station in the Warehouse Arts District of St. Petersburg, Florida. The nationally recognized Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program aims to enhance the educational experience of ceramic artists seeking professional recognition through community involvement, professional development, teaching experience, and self-exploration.

Residents must have a bachelor's or master's degree in fine art and are accepted for a one-year term, with the option of a second term upon mutual agreement. Up to six positions are available each year. The residency is a work exchange program in which residents work 8 hours per week in exchange for studio space (450 cubic ft), 24-hour studio access, free firings (electric and gas), and discounts on clay, classes, and merchandise. Weekly work includes assisting in workshops, kiln loading/firing, mixing glazes, installing exhibitions, and studio maintenance. Residents agree to work one full day during the week (9am-5pm) at MCC. Additional paid work is available at $11/hour for first-year residents and $12/hour for second-year residents, with opportunities to earn up to $150 per event for chaperoning facility rentals. Teaching opportunities at MCC and other Morean locations are also available.

Affordable shared housing is available for $350/month, though only 4 residents can be accommodated. The residency runs from August 1, 2022 to July 31, 2023. Applicants must submit a $25 application fee, 15-20 images, image list, 3 references with contact information, artist statement, resume, and letter of intent by April 30, 2022. MCC facilities include an Anagama kiln, wood soda kiln, gas soda kiln, 2 cone 10 gas kilns, raku kiln, 14 electric kilns, pizza kiln, and various clay processing equipment.
