About This Call
The City of Frisco Public Art Program is issuing a Request for Qualifications for a public art opportunity at Monarch View Park, located along Koehn Drive and Fall Harvest Drive in Frisco, TX. The artist chosen will create a freestanding, outdoor public artwork inspired by monarch butterflies. The park name was chosen by the community based on sightings of the butterflies on the property. Artists are encouraged to consider the plants essential to monarch habitats.
The public art should be welcoming to visitors and safe and hazard-free, made of low-maintenance, durable materials resistant to vandalism and heat. All materials must be approved by City of Frisco staff. The artwork must be completed by November 2020 (tentative). The project budget is $50,000.00 all-inclusive, covering artist fee, fabrication costs, transportation, insurance, engineering services, permit fees, site prep, installation, and related expenses.
Applications must be submitted online via www.callforentry.org by 4:00 p.m. CST on Friday, June 28, 2019, and include a completed submission cover page, typed cover letter, artist resume with current contact information, artist statement, three references with contact information, and no more than 15 images of past work (with the first five being most relevant to the project). The Artist Selection Committee will evaluate qualifications based on demonstrated excellence of past work, quality of professional qualifications and relevant experience, stated interest and approach specific to the project, and ability to create work meeting project goals. Finalists may be requested to develop proposals or be interviewed. Questions should be submitted to [email protected] by 4 p.m. CST on Friday, June 14, 2019. This opportunity is open to all artists; qualifications from City employees or their relatives, and members of the Artist Selection Committee or Public Art Board or their relatives will not be considered.
