Mommy Dearest

Not Shockboxx invites artists to submit work for Mommy Dearest — a raw, unapologetic exhibition exploring the messy, painful, and sometimes hilarious realities of family. This show is about the families we actually had — dysfunctional, toxic, complicated, co-dependent, absent, or just plain weird. The exhibition seeks work that explores anger, frustration, grief, or absurdity tied to family dynamics; reflects on toxic parents, generational dysfunction, or unresolved baggage; reimagines love, dependency, or memorials to parents in unconventional ways; confronts the gap between "normal" families and lived realities; and pushes emotional honesty, whether raw, satirical, or darkly humorous.

Open to all artists 18+ regardless of location, identity, or background. All mediums accepted: 2D, 3D, mixed media, photography, digital works, and performance (with limited presentation slots). Size limit: 10ft x 10ft (works must fit through a small garage door opening). All work must be original and available for the full run of the exhibit. Submit up to 10 pieces with title, medium, dimensions, year completed, high-resolution images (JPEG, PNG, or PDF), and a short artist statement (100–200 words) explaining how the work fits the theme. Entry fee: $25 plus $5 for each additional image. Jury dates: 10/10/25 - 10/12/25.
