About This Call
Call to Artists for the twelfth temporary public art exhibition in Blue Springs, Missouri, entitled "Momentum." The City of Blue Springs Public Art Commission seeks professional and emerging artists over the age of eighteen to submit work for consideration.
Four artists will be selected to provide artworks for exterior display along the southern corridor of Adams Dairy Parkway, near Interstate 70 Exit 21. The exhibition will be located along the walking trail on the west side of the Parkway. The "Momentum" exhibit will open April 1, 2019 and remain on display through March 1, 2020. Proposed artwork should relate to the exhibit theme of "Momentum," considering concepts such as movement, rising higher, creating positive feelings, lofty, uplifting, meaningful, force of nature, or striking in appearance. Media can include bronze, stone, wood, metal, ceramics, mosaic, or other materials suitable for exterior display. Kinetic, solar, neon, or interactive art are encouraged. Artworks should be appropriate in size and height to the site and durable enough to withstand heavy rains, high heat and humidity, high winds, and seasonal snow or freezing precipitation without maintenance.
Each selected artist will receive an honorarium of $2,500 for the 11-month exhibition. Artists may offer their work for sale, but the Public Art Commission reserves the right of first refusal for any artwork purchase. If purchased for permanent exhibit, the $2,500 honorarium will be credited toward the purchase price. Installation will occur between March 24-29, 2019. Artists are responsible for transporting and installing their artwork and removing it after the exhibition if not purchased. The Public Art Commission will be responsible for site preparation and on-site equipment. Selected artists will be interviewed and videotaped during installation for promotional use, invited to a dedication event in June 2019, and their artworks will be promoted in local and regional publications and on the City website.
Application Requirements: Letter of interest explaining why you wish to be considered and how your art fits the theme; current resume including educational background, gallery showings, and public art experience; 4-6 jpeg images representative of your body of work with title, dimensions, materials, and sales price for each; one optional video file. Application deadline: September 19, 2018 by 11:59 p.m. MDT.
