About This Call
Artists working in glass, glass-related materials, or materials referencing glass are invited to submit work for the Momentum juried competition/exhibition, presented by The Arts Commission of Greater Toledo in conjunction with the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, ProMedica Health System, and Toledo's philanthropic community. The exhibition will take place September 8 – October 14, 2017, in the historic downtown Secor Building, with an opening reception on September 16, 2017. The festival is part of Momentum, a three-day celebration of music and art in downtown Toledo with a focus on the revitalizing waterfront.
The exhibition seeks work that celebrates Toledo's unique narrative as a nexus between art, industry, and innovation through glass. Jurors will select entries that exemplify experimental or interdisciplinary works using glass as a material in the spirit of Toledo's glass industry innovation; artworks utilizing glass that connect to industrial glass processes or industrially produced glass materials; and artworks informed by personal affiliation or history with the Toledo area. Any size and medium will be considered, including two-dimensional, three-dimensional works, and installations. Entries must have been completed after January 1, 2015, and must be original work. Up to 5 individual works with a total of 10 images may be entered (video entries limited to 3). The entry deadline is July 17, 2017. Entrants will be notified by August 11, 2017.
Awards include 1st Place $5,000, 2nd Place $3,000, 3rd Place $1,000, and two $500 Honorable Mention Awards. All work will be insured for the artist's stated insurance amount while on the Secor Building premises. A shipping stipend is available to assist with costs. Work must be delivered by September 1, 2017. A 40% commission of the retail sale price will be charged by the host organizations for any sold work. For questions, contact Crystal Phelps at [email protected].
