About This Call
The Allegany Arts Council invites artists working in hot and warm glass mediums to enter the 2020 Molten Glass Competition & Exhibition, held at the Saville Gallery in Cumberland, Maryland, May 9-June 6, 2020.
The exhibition includes artists working in hot and warm glass methodologies including glass blowing, lampworking, slumping, casting, and fusing. The show will feature work that can be hung and placed on pedestals. Artists may enter up to six pieces of artwork for jurying. Entry fee is $30.00 for the first two entries, plus an additional $15.00 per entry thereafter. Artists may have more than one artwork selected for inclusion in the exhibition. The deadline to enter is April 2, 2020, with artist notification on April 10, 2020.
The juror is Erwin Timmers, co-founder and co-director of the Washington Glass School. Originally from Amsterdam, Timmers graduated from Santa Monica College for Design Art and Architecture and moved to the Washington DC area in 1999. His sculptural artwork has been displayed in local, regional, and national galleries, and he has received multiple public art commissions. Timmers was featured in "100 Mid-Atlantic Artists" by Ashley Rooney and "Cast" by Jen Townsend and Renée Zettle-Sterling, and received the Outstanding Artist Award from Montgomery County, Maryland in 2018. He is known for incorporating recycling and waste themes in his work, often using float glass or window glass with innovative techniques in metalwork, lighting, and glass design.
Cash prizes: Best in Show $1,000, Second Place $750, Third Place $500. Public opening and awards ceremony on May 9, 2020.
