About This Call
The City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs invites architects, artists, and designers to submit qualifications for the design, production, and installation of a water feature with LED lighting in a new linear park along MLK Jr. Drive, between Lynhurst Drive and Peyton Place. The artwork will be part of a 7.2-mile east-west corridor connecting points of interest including the Mercedes Benz Stadium, Atlanta University Center, Atlanta BeltLine, Westview Cemetery, and MARTA bus stops.
The Renew Atlanta initiative aims to address vehicular and pedestrian safety concerns, provide additional pedestrian and bicycle access through new multi-use trails, and introduce public art installations. The goal is to transform MLK Jr. Drive into an art-filled, pedestrian and bicycle-friendly corridor with improved access to the Atlanta BeltLine and MARTA bus service.
Applicants must demonstrate professional experience designing, fabricating, and installing water features with LED lighting for public spaces. The portfolio should demonstrate ability to execute architectural work with artistic design. If selected to submit a proposal, applicants will receive $2,000 and one month to build the proposal. If awarded the project, the artist will be responsible for subcontracting fabrication, installation, transportation, and travel costs. The total project budget is $1,194,000, paid in four draws: $298,500 at project start, $298,500 at 1/3 completion, $298,500 at 2/3 completion, and $298,500 upon completion.
Required application materials include a one-page statement of interest (minimum 10pt font) addressing conceptual approach, site aspects of interest, public engagement strategy, and contribution to existing body of work; a résumé (maximum 2 pages per person) with three professional references; and past work samples with title, location, date completed, media, project description, and budget. Electronic qualifications must be received no later than 12:00 AM on March 2, 2018. Questions must be submitted in writing to Emily Fisher, Cultural Affairs Outreach Specialist, by February 16, 2018.
