About This Call
The City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Cultural Affairs invites professional bronze sculptors and artist teams to submit proposals for a series of site-specific, life-sized bronze statues of civil-rights leaders seated on bronze benches. Four installations will be placed along MLK Drive in Mozley Park in Atlanta, Georgia, between Chappell Rd NW and Federal Drive SW. The sculptures, bench design, and construction costs must be integrated into the project budget. Featured Civil Rights leaders will be chosen with community input and finalized before production starts.
The all-inclusive budget is $270,000, covering all artist fees, engineering, fabrication, foundations, transportation, installation, insurance, permitting, and travel costs. Payment will be made in three draws: $90,000 upon selection, $90,000 at 50% completion, and $90,000 upon completion. Artists must demonstrate portfolios with life-sized bronze portrait sculptures showing likeness to subject matter and successful experience with public art projects of similar scope.
Required application materials include a one-page statement of interest (minimum 10pt font) addressing the conceptual approach, site aspects of interest, and contribution to existing body of work; a résumé (maximum 2 pages per person) with three professional references; a list of works submitted for review including title, location, date completed, media, description, and budget; and work samples in one or more formats. Applicants must submit 5-10 images. The application deadline is March 19, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. For questions, contact Emily Fisher, Cultural Affairs Outreach Specialist, at [email protected].
