About This Call
The MJSA Vision Awards honor the talent and innovation of jewelry designers whose work will have a profound influence on the future of jewelry design. Winners receive recognition through promotion in industry publications including MJSA Journal, and their winning entries will be displayed at MJSA Expo New York (March 11-13, 2012), the largest and oldest trade show in the U.S. dedicated to professional excellence in jewelry making and design.
Award categories include Design Excellence, Visionary Technical Solution, Custom Design Distinction, Laser Distinction, Gold Distinction, Palladium Distinction, Platinum Distinction, and Future of the Industry Award (for students). All designs must be new, original, and unavailable for sale, and cannot have won previous competitions. Entries require a detailed description of design, techniques, and materials used; a profile/biography and artist's statement; and the appropriate entry fee. MJSA members pay $50 for up to three submissions, non-members pay $125, and students submit free. All entry fees include a one-year subscription to MJSA Journal.
Winners are selected by a distinguished panel of jewelry designers, manufacturers, and editors based on originality, presentation quality, effective use of materials, wearability, and design's perceived manufacturing and marketing potential. First-place Design Excellence and Visionary Use of Materials winners receive $500 gift certificates from Rio Grande and featured ad pages in trade publications. First-place Distinction winners receive $500 cash awards. The first-place Future of the Industry winner receives a $500 gift certificate from Rio Grande and a $1,000 scholarship from the MJSA Education Foundation. Winners must have finished jewelry entries available by March 9, 2012, for display at the Expo.
