About This Call
MIXMASTER is an exhibition open to artists 18 years and older who are current residents of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Vermont. Current Mattatuck Museum membership at any level is required at the time of submission. Original works in all media are accepted, provided they were executed within the past three years and have not been previously exhibited in a Connecticut museum.
Up to three works per artist may be submitted, with a $10.00 entry fee per work. Work samples may include images, audio, or video (up to 3 of each format, with a minimum of 1 and maximum of 3 total samples). Two-dimensional work must be framed and ready for installation with hanging hardware already installed; maximum dimensions are 84 inches in any direction and 75 pounds. Three-dimensional work cannot exceed 48 inches in any dimension and 100 pounds. Work requiring assembly or complex installation must include detailed installation instructions with reference photos. The museum prohibits glitter, wet paint, sharp objects, open flames, balloons, spray, dangerous chemicals, weapons, pressurized containers, plants, animals, and hazardous or infested materials.
The exhibition runs January 29 – March 19, 2017 at Mattatuck Museum, 144 West Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06702. A reception and awards ceremony will be held Sunday, January 29, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Prizes include First Prize: $500 and a solo show in "The Lab" (July 23 – September 3, 2017); Second Prize: $300; Third Prize: $200. Juror Selection and Visitor's Award recipients receive upgraded membership to Director's Circle membership level ($250 value). The juror is Meg White, director and owner of Gallery NAGA in Boston. Accepted work must be delivered January 17-20 or shipped by January 23. Artists are responsible for all delivery, shipping, and return postage costs. The museum assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to submitted work; insurance is the artist's responsibility.
