About This Call

MIXMASTER is an exhibition at Mattatuck Museum running February 11 – March 18, 2018. The reception and awards ceremony will be held Sunday, February 11, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at Mattatuck Museum, 144 West Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06702.

Eligibility: Current Mattatuck Museum membership at any level is required at time of submission. Open to artists 18 years and over who are residents of Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, or Vermont. Original works in all media are accepted. Work must have been executed in the past three years and not previously exhibited in a Connecticut Museum. Up to three works per artist may be submitted; a maximum of one work per artist may be selected.

Entry fee is $10.00 per work submitted. Work sample requirements: 1-3 total samples (images, audio, or video in any combination, up to 3 of each type). Submissions are accepted only through CaFÉ at www.callforentry.org. Deadline for submissions is January 2, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Notification will be sent January 19 via CaFÉ and mattmuseum.org. Delivery of accepted works is January 22-26, 10:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., with a deadline of January 31 for shipped artwork.

Prizes: First Prize $500 and a solo show in "The Lab" (dates TBD); Second Prize $300; Third Prize $200. Juror Selection and Visitor's Award each receive upgraded membership to Director's Circle membership level and all benefits ($250 value). Juror is Sara Shaoul, director of 601Artspace in New York City.

Two-dimensional work must be framed and ready for installation with hanging hardware already installed; maximum 84 inches in any dimension and 75 pounds. Three-dimensional work cannot exceed 48 inches in any dimension and 100 pounds. All work requiring assembly must include detailed installation instructions with reference photos. The Museum prohibits glitter, wet paint, sharp objects, open flames, balloons, spray, dangerous chemicals, weapons, pressurized containers, plants, animals, hazardous materials, or infested materials. All costs for delivery, pickup, and shipping are the artist's responsibility. The Mattatuck Museum assumes no responsibility for loss or damage to submitted work; insurance is the artist's responsibility. Work not picked up by March 21 will be considered abandoned property.
