About This Call
The Miramonte and Kohl Park public art site is located on the southeast corner of Miramonte Boulevard and Kohl Street in Broomfield. The park is highly visible to vehicular, bicycle, and walking traffic, with the proposed art site approximately 40 x 70 feet in size. The site features mature landscaping and a bench on the north side, with views of the park, trail system, and middle school playing fields to the north, and residential homes to the east and south. The park is bordered on the north by Miramonte Boulevard, one of the main entry points to this residential area, and is extensively used by pedestrians, cyclists, and families.
The Public Art Commission (PAC) seeks interactive, user-friendly, and potentially educational artwork that speaks to the community from the perspective of youth, given the site's connection to middle school and high school-aged members of the community. The PAC has a budget of $50,000 for artwork via commission or direct purchase. This budget covers all expenses associated with design, labor, materials, tools, contracted services, operations, travel, installation of base or foundation, permits, taxes, insurance (including Colorado Workers' Compensation), landscaping modifications, and transportation to the site. Any expenses exceeding the contracted amount are the artist's responsibility. Proof of insurance is required in accordance with City and County of Broomfield standards. Artists' travel expenses will not be reimbursed.
Eligibility is open to artists 18 years or older. Submissions must include 5 artwork images and 1 proposal image, a letter of interest describing vision and intent plus relevant experience, anticipated maintenance requirements, a list of all materials, two references for artwork completed within the last five years, a proposed work plan including project costs and timeline for delivery prior to March 31, 2008, and a current resume. Semi-finalists will be paid an honorarium for maquettes submitted for public comment. The maquette provided by the finalist becomes the property of the City and County of Broomfield. Installation must be completed by March 31, 2008.
