About This Call
The Community Redevelopment Agency of the City of Bradenton (CRA) and its Public Art Advisory Board (PAAB) are seeking professional artists or artist teams to create permanent artwork for the new Mineral Springs Park at Riverwalk East. The artwork should be consistent with themes of history and nature, developing a comprehensive package that unifies the park, distinguishes historic elements, and enhances local natural elements. Individual artists may be selected for individual pieces, or teams of artists may be selected to work together. A collaborative approach to all art pieces is required regardless of style, materials, and thematic considerations.
The park's history includes Native American settlements, a population of escaped slaves called "Freedom Seekers" who resettled in Red Bay Village of the Bahamas, and early pioneers who used the natural mineral spring near the historic Village of Manatee. The north side of the park faces the Manatee River, which legend claims was a "Singing River." Artwork should be located along accessible pathways and consider all people as part of the audience. Power is available throughout the site if needed. Hands-on, interactive, or kinetic pieces are encouraged but must be highly durable.
Applications must be submitted via CaFÉ by December 15, 2022 at 11:59 p.m. MT and must include: artist name and contact information, artist's statement (up to one page), statement of interest (up to one page), resume, at least three professional references with contact information, and 1-6 digital work samples. Optional support materials may include reviews, news articles, and web links. This RFQ is open to professional artists and artist teams residing in the United States and/or the Bahamas. Selected semi-finalists will receive a $1,500 stipend to develop their concepts and proposals, with travel expenses reimbursed up to $500. The total budget is up to $96,000 for one piece or up to $350,000 for a comprehensive design with multiple pieces.
