About This Call
Millstream Arts Festival is an annual outdoor juried art festival that has been in existence for almost 40 years and, for the past 17 years, in downtown St. Joseph, Minnesota. This rain-or-shine event features a wide variety of visual arts, literature and poetry, music, dance, enticing foods, hands-on art activities for children, and much more in a festive environment. The festival gives artists a venue to display and sell their work to a large, interested audience with crowd numbers estimated at over 6,000.
Participation is open to all artists working in basketry, ceramics, fibers, handmade paper, glass, jewelry, leather, metal, wood, mixed media, original two-dimensional fine arts, and literary arts. The work exhibited must be of original concept, designed and crafted by the applicant—unique art forms developed primarily for aesthetic and/or original concept rather than practical application except in cases of true folk artistry. Jurors will look for quality, originality and consistency of design. Work made from commercial molds, kits or patterns, copyrighted designs not owned by the artist, and commercial reproductions are not acceptable.
Artist booths are set up on pavement in downtown St. Joseph with no electricity available. Exhibitors must provide their own display materials including tables and canopies, which are strongly recommended. Artists should plan on a booth space of 10' x 10'. Displays must be set up by 10:30 AM and work displayed the entire time the event is open to the public (11 am-5 pm). All proceeds of sales go to the participating artists. Fees include a $25 non-refundable jury/application fee, $100 for a single booth, or $85 per artist for shared booths (limited to two artists). Emerging artists or artists new to Millstream have the opportunity to be mentored by returning artists.
