Migration at Art Works Downtown

Art Works Downtown invites SF Bay Area artists to submit work for an exhibition exploring the concept of migration. Artists are encouraged to consider the ways in which movements of communities, individuals, cultures, and climate conditions have shaped history and continue to shape our current moment. The exhibition is juried by Emily A. Kuhlmann, Director of Exhibitions and Curatorial Affairs at the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco.

Eligibility and Requirements: SF Bay Area artists only (must live within 100 miles of San Rafael, California). Open to all visual arts media including video (artist must provide player and monitor; projections are prohibited). Artwork must not exceed six feet in any dimension. Original artwork only; no giclees or reproductions. Submissions must not have previously exhibited in the AWD 1337 Gallery. Submissions are made through callforentry.org only; hardcopy, email, and disk submissions are not accepted. Entry fee is $40 for up to 3 entries; discounts available for AWD Artist Members. Artists may submit up to 3 images and/or 3 videos (minimum 1 sample required).

Timeline and Logistics: Entries due August 24 at 11:59 p.m. MDT via callforentry.org. Notification by email September 1-2. Accepted work must be hand-delivered to Art Works Downtown, 1337 Fourth Street, San Rafael between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. on September 23. Reception: October 13, 5-8 p.m. Closing Reception: November 10, 5-8 p.m. Pick up unsold artwork November 11, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Art Works Downtown retains a 40% donation upon sale. Artists not retrieving work will be charged $1.00 per day storage; works remaining after 30 days become property of Art Works Downtown. Artists must sign a consignment contract upon delivery and provide an artist statement and resume.
