About This Call
The Seattle Perugia Sister City Association is seeking 3 artists from the greater Seattle area to participate in a themed exhibition titled MIGRATION at the Palazzo della Penna Museum in Perugia, Italy in fall 2022. The exhibition will feature these 3 Seattle artists alongside 5 artists from Perugia and 2 project-founding artists. The project is jointly supported by the Seattle-Perugia and Perugia-Seattle Sister City Associations, the City of Perugia, Palazzo della Penna Museum, and private individuals and companies in Umbria and the Seattle area.
Artists are invited to create work that explores Migration as fact or metaphor, reflecting on what makes this concept relevant and transformative. Selected artists will be expected to spend up to 7 days in fall 2022 in Perugia to install their work and will have the opportunity to meet local artists, tour the ancient Etruscan city, and celebrate the 28-year relationship between Perugia and Seattle. The exhibition is scheduled for one month between September and October 2022, with exact dates to be confirmed.
Eligibility is limited to legal residents of the greater Seattle area. Artists of any age and career stage are encouraged to apply. Submissions will be judged on quality of previous work, relevance of ideas to the migration theme, proposed shipping plan including artwork dimensions and weight, and willingness to be present in Perugia during the exhibition. Selected artists will receive a $500 stipend for studio work and materials, plus up to $3,000 for shipping, travel, housing, and food expenses in Perugia. Artists must submit a resume (up to 2 pages) with biography, address, exhibition history, and 7-15 work samples (images, audio, or video). Entry fee is $30. Notification of selection will occur in February 2022.
