About This Call
Midwestern Voices and Visions, led by the Alliance of Artists Communities in partnership with The Joyce Foundation, aims to connect highly talented, yet under-recognized artists of color with artist residency programs throughout the Midwest. Artists of color working in any visual, performance, or literary fields and living in the Midwest are encouraged to apply.
Seven artists will be selected to receive the 2013 Midwestern Voices and Visions Award, which includes a 1-3 month residency at one of seven participating Midwestern artist-in-residence programs, a $4,000 fellowship, and inclusion in a publication and exhibition in 2014. Work submitted should be from the previous 2 years. Visual artists may submit up to 8 JPGs. Performance artists, film/video/animation artists, and choreographers may submit up to 4 video files (no more than 10 minutes will be reviewed). Composers, songwriters, and sound artists may submit up to 4 audio or video files (10 minutes of work will be reviewed). Writers may submit up to 15 pages of recent work in no more than two PDF files (12 pt. font, double-spaced). Poets may submit up to 10 recent poems in no more than two PDF files (12 pt. font, no more than 15 pages total). Interdisciplinary artists may submit a combination of approved work samples with a combined total of no more than 4 audio or video files.
Applications and work samples will be reviewed by a prestigious panel of artists and art professionals from the Midwest as well as representatives from each of the seven artist residency programs. Finalists will be notified in October/November 2012 and residencies will occur in 2013. Participating residency sites include Anderson Center for Interdisciplinary Studies (Red Wing, Minnesota), Art Farm (Marquette, Nebraska), Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts (Omaha, Nebraska), John Michael Kohler Arts Center (Sheboygan, Wisconsin), Ox-Bow (Saugatuck, Michigan), Prairie Center of the Arts (Peoria, Illinois), and Ragdale Foundation (Lake Forest, Illinois).
