About This Call
Midtown Alliance is seeking applications from visual artists with an established arts practice motivated to advance their creative development within Midtown, Atlanta. The Heart of the Arts residency program provides one year of free studio space, a $2,500 stipend, and high quality presentation of work for public view. The program also provides opportunities to connect with Midtown-based arts institutions, curators, arts professionals, potential clients and collectors. Selected artists may be engaged by Midtown Alliance and partners to commission additional work for Midtown's public spaces. The program launches in partnership with Atlanta History Center Midtown and Portman Holdings at multiple Midtown locations.
Eligibility requirements include: residency in the Metro Atlanta region upon acceptance and for the entire residency duration; identification as a visual artist/creative with a serious commitment to artistic practice; not being enrolled as a student in any degree-granting art program during the residency period; not being enrolled in another studio residency program; and needing a professional workspace to support a studio practice.
Residents commit to being present and active for the duration of the residency cycle, spending a minimum of 10 hours per week in the studio space. They must participate in quarterly educational programming events such as artist talks, workshops, and lectures; produce new original work for ongoing exhibition display onsite; and provide a certificate of insurance for general liability coverage. Applications require an artist statement, bio, resume/cv, statement of intent, professional references, eight work samples with descriptions, and a headshot. The application deadline is May 7, 2021. The residency term runs from July 2021 to July 2022, with public announcement of finalists on June 7th and orientation in June.
