About This Call
Midtown Alliance is seeking applications from artists with an established practice motivated to advance their creative development within Midtown, Atlanta. The Heart of the Arts Studio Residency program provides 18 months of free studio space, a $2,500 yearly stipend, and high quality presentation of work for public view. Selected artists will engage with Midtown Alliance staff and partners to build vibrant public life within the district and connect with other artists, curators, arts professionals, potential clients and collectors.
The ideal candidate has an established arts practice and intends to utilize the residency to advance professional development in the Midtown context. Residents commit to spending a minimum of 10 hours per week in the studio space, participating in public-facing programming such as open studios and artist talks, engaging with Midtown Alliance staff and partners as a creative advisor (not to exceed 5 hours per month on average), producing new original work for ongoing exhibition display, and providing a certificate of general liability insurance for the duration of the residency term.
Benefits include convenient studio access in Midtown, yearly stipend of $2,500, opportunities to connect with visiting curators and arts professionals, consideration for commission opportunities with Midtown Alliance and partners, platforms to share work with new audiences, ongoing promotion through Midtown Alliance and partner social media, and discounts at Midtown businesses and restaurants. The residency term runs January 2023 through June 2024. Application deadline is Sunday, September 18th, 2023 at 11:59 PM EST. Entry fee is $25. Finalists will be announced in October/November, with orientation in December and artist move-in on January 1st.
