About This Call
Midtown Alliance is seeking applications from artists with an established professional practice for the 2025 Heart of the Arts Studio Residency. The program provides an 18-month studio term, a $2,500 stipend, quality presentation of work for public view, and additional commission opportunities. Selected artists will engage with Midtown Alliance staff and partners to advance their creative development within Midtown, Atlanta, and collaborate on a proposal for a public-facing art installation for the district.
The residency program generates opportunities to connect with other artists and Midtown-based arts institutions and professionals. Residents commit to spending a minimum of 10 hours per week in the studio space, participating in public-facing programming such as open studios and artist talks, working with the Midtown Alliance curator and urban planning team to design and execute a public art commission, producing original work for ongoing display, and providing a certificate of insurance for general liability coverage. The residency term runs from January 1, 2025 to June 30, 2026.
For the 2025 term, Midtown Alliance has identified four potential public art installation locations: Commercial Row Commons Catenary System, 10th St. Park Sculpture, Art Walk Sculpture, and opportunities for murals and storefronts throughout the district. Applicants are encouraged to submit preliminary ideas for these commission sites. Midtown Alliance plans to allocate funds in the range of $20,000 to $50,000 per location, pending budget approval. Applications must include 8-12 images of work samples. The application deadline is September 29, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Applications are accepted through CaFE only. Finalists will be announced in Fall 2024, with orientation in December 2024.
