Mid-Atlantic New Painting Biennial 2024

UMW Galleries is accepting submissions for the 2024 Mid-Atlantic New Painting Biennial, a juried exhibition celebrating contemporary painting. This biannual event showcases artists from Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and West Virginia. Now in its twelfth iteration since 1997, the exhibition highlights new developments in painting within the region.

This year's juror is Heather Hakimzadeh, senior curator and special projects manager at Virginia MOCA, who has organized over 80 exhibitions. Awards include three Best In Show awards ($1,000, $500, $250) and one UMW Collections Purchase Award, decided by the juror and UMW representatives respectively. Awards will be announced at the opening reception on November 7, 2024. The exhibition runs through January 19, 2025.

Eligibility: Open to artists 18 years and older who live in the eligible states. Paintings in any medium are eligible but may not exceed 80 inches in any dimension. Entry fee is $25. Submissions must include up to three images with title, dimensions, and material list for each entry, plus a brief artist's statement (no more than 150 words). Entry deadline is May 15, 2024. Works are due to the gallery by October 17, 2024, with artist notification on June 10, 2024.
