About This Call
Michigan Ceramics is a biennial exhibition sponsored by MCAA to celebrate ceramic arts in Michigan. The show is open to all visual artists who have lived, studied, or worked within Michigan, including current and former residents, those who completed studies in higher education throughout the state, and those with professional affiliations with entities in the state.
The exhibition includes all ceramics organized into two categories: Functional/Utilitarian Expression and Sculptural Expression. Ten cash awards will be given: Best of Functional/Utilitarian ($300), three Honorable Mentions in Functional/Utilitarian ($100 each), Best of Sculptural Expression ($300), three Honorable Mentions in Sculptural Expression ($100 each), Juror's Choice ($300), and Members Choice Award ($100). Winners will receive hand-made ceramic trophies from juror George Rodriguez. Five additional sponsor awards recognize one artist in each of five self-identified categories: Established Artist, Emerging Artist, Enthusiast, Educator, and Student. A separate category celebrates K-12 students in Michigan public and private schools with individual awards for Elementary, Middle, and High school levels.
Entry deadline is July 1, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Entry fee is $40 (includes 12-month MCAA membership). Artists may submit up to two applications with a maximum of three images per application. All works must be made of a minimum 51% clay and completed within the last two calendar years. Exhibition dates are September 27 – October 31, 2024 at Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center. Delivery deadline is September 23-24, 2024. Opening reception and juror talk are September 27, 2024, 5-7 p.m. Pick-up dates are November 1-2, 2024. Works left past pick-up dates will incur a $10/day storage fee. The gallery retains a 45% commission on sales.
