About This Call
MCAA presents Michigan Ceramics 2020, a juried exhibition of sculptural ceramics, functional ceramics, and ceramic vessel works created by artists across Michigan. The exhibition runs from October 16th to November 12th at the Birmingham Bloomfield Art Center in Birmingham, Michigan. Entrance is open to Michigan residents and all MCAA members, regardless of state of residence.
Artists may enter up to three works with two images per work. Eligibility is open to all artists 18 years or older residing in Michigan and all MCAA members regardless of state of residence. Work submitted must be original, use clay as the primary material, and have been created in the last two years. Entry fees are $25 for MCAA members with paid dues, $50 for non-member Michigan residents, and free for student members. The application deadline is September 14th, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Artists will be notified of the juror's decision by September 28th via email.
$3,000 in awards will be distributed across two categories: Emerging Artist (working in clay for less than ten years) and Established Artist (working in clay for more than ten years). In both categories, $500 will be awarded in each of three sub-categories: Functional, Sculptural, and Vessel. Merit awards may be awarded at the juror's discretion. The juror is Malcolm Mobutu Smith, Associate Professor of Ceramic Art at Indiana University. Accepted art must be delivered by Tuesday, October 13th. Work must be picked up Friday, November 13th and Saturday, November 14th. Participants are encouraged to offer entries for sale; a 45% commission to BBAC will be deducted from each sale. Items not for sale must be marked NFS with a stated value for insurance purposes.
