About This Call

Request for Proposals for Miami DWNTWN Art Days 2014. Artists are invited to create proposals for temporary public artworks throughout downtown Miami within a one-mile radius of 100 NE 1st Avenue, the Miami Center for Architecture and Design. Artworks will be site-determined and artists must propose sites in conjunction with their projects as an integral aspect of the work. Selected artists will participate in associated public programming during the exhibition. Projects may include durational works, site-specific and place-based installations, interventions, or social interactions.

Commissioning fee: $2,000. Travel and accommodations may be included in the budget. Exhibition dates: September 19-28, 2014. Submissions must be received by May 5, 2014 at 11:59 p.m. MDT via CaFÉ online application system. Application materials include: ten (10) images of previously completed work with medium, dimensions, date, location, client/agency, size, budget, and completion date; one-page artist statement describing proposed artwork and budget; sketch, rendering, or concept material for proposed work at suggested site(s); current professional resume/CV; and brief artist biography in paragraph form. Artists working in video, sound, installations, and kinetic sculpture may submit a 3-minute video, audio, or dynamic media file in lieu of still images. No application fee.

Selection will be based on previous artistic accomplishment and initial approach to the project. A three-member panel of arts professionals will recommend finalists. Professional visual artists demonstrating innovative, contemporary, and creative approaches to temporary or permanent, site-specific works are encouraged to apply. Miami-Dade employees and selection panelists' immediate family members are excluded from participation. This is a time-sensitive project with a tight schedule; applicants must be able to adhere to advertised deadlines.
