About This Call

The City of Hialeah and Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places seek to commission a Miami-Dade County-based artist or artist team to create site-specific public artwork(s) for the Milander Center, a multipurpose venue currently under construction and scheduled for completion in December 2012. The Milander Center is located in the 19.26-acre Milander Park complex and will include a parking garage, outside amphitheater stage and seating, reception hall convertible to a black box space, and a roof terrace for private and community events.

Artists may propose for one, a portion, or all of the following opportunities: Entrance/Lobby Wall, Rooftop Terrace Trellis Canopy, and/or Overall Design Concept for Exterior Façade of the Milander Center and parking garage. The selected artist will contract directly with the City of Hialeah to implement the public art project with a budget of $135,000.00, which must be inclusive of design, engineering, fabrication, installation, and all other costs associated with implementation. The project is open to experienced professional artists residing in Miami-Dade County. Applications from architects, landscape architects, or other design professionals will not be considered unless included as part of a professional artist-led team. Miami-Dade employees, City of Hialeah employees, selection panelists, and panelists' immediate family members are excluded from participation.

Finalists will be paid a $700.00 honorarium to develop specific proposals. Selection will be based on previous artistic accomplishment, public art experience, and initial approach to the project. The estimated project schedule includes an application deadline of September 21, 2012 (midnight), initial PAC meeting in October 2012, finalist interviews and recommendations in November 2012, with selected artist completion of the project by April 2013. There is no application fee. All submissions must be received as a complete application via CaFÉ online by the deadline. For more information, contact Brandi Reddick at 305.375.5436 or [email protected].
