About This Call
Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places seeks professional artists to create works of public art for the new Animal Services Facility located at NW 37th Street and NW 78th Avenue in Doral, FL. The project budget is $350,000.
The selected artist will develop an interactive and welcoming experience for visitors. Two opportunities are available: design of the exterior façade and design of the interior lobby and main corridor. The exterior façade design should artistically depict the activities of the department, encourage pet adoptions, welcome the community and employees, and create a public identity for the facility. Artists may integrate dynamic lighting or interactive projection systems. The interior design should incorporate flooring, wall treatments, sensory experiences and/or lighting elements for the 3,665 square foot lobby and 5,849 square foot main corridor, highlighting the personalities of adoptable pets and encouraging adoption. The main corridor will house over 200 pet kennels.
Eligibility is open to experienced professional artists residing in the United States. Applications from architects, landscape architects, or other design professionals will not be considered unless included as part of an artist-led team. Miami-Dade employees and selection panelists' immediate family members are excluded. Finalists will be paid an honorarium of $1,000 to develop specific proposals. Submissions must include 10 images of previously completed work (or a 3-minute video for video, sound, installation, or kinetic sculpture artists), an artist statement, and a current professional resume. The application deadline is April 12, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. Project completion is anticipated for May 2015.
