About This Call
Miami-Dade Art in Public Places is seeking professional visual artists to design and create large-scale permanent public art for the Westchester Cultural Arts Center, a new cultural facility being built within Tropical Park at 7900 SW 40th Street, Miami, FL 33155. The facility will feature a studio theater, art gallery, classroom spaces for performing and visual arts, and a conference center. The estimated total public art project budget is $100,000.
Artists are invited to submit site-specific project proposals for the main plaza area (Plaza of the Americas). The public art should visually link the Lobby/Studio Theater and Dance/Community Education facilities, serve as the focal point of the Center, and reflect the creative character and context of Tropical Park. Artists may consider integrated works such as plaza pavilions, paving designs, or seating elements. For exterior components, artists should consider South Florida's harsh weather conditions. The selected artwork will contribute to the facility's identity and should reflect the neighborhood's diversity and heritage.
Application deadline is Friday, March 11, 2016 at 11:59 p.m. MST. Submissions must be received as a complete application via CaFÉ™ online system. Applicants must submit 10 images of previously completed work (or a 3-minute video for video, sound, installations, and kinetic sculpture), an artist statement (no more than 5000 characters), and a current professional resume. There is no application fee. Finalists will be paid a $1,000 honorarium to develop specific proposals. The selection panel will be drawn from the Professional Advisory Committee, a national panel of arts professionals. Miami-Dade employees and selection panelists' immediate family members are excluded from participation. The project timeline includes finalist interviews in March/April 2016, design completion by January 2017, fabrication completion by December 2017, and project completion by January 2018.
