About This Call
Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places and PortMiami request qualifications from professional artists to create works of public art for PortMiami. The selected artist will develop a world class experience for cruise passengers traveling through the "Cruise Capital of the World."
Two opportunities are available for public art integration: Bollard Cover/Sleeve Design (estimated budget $130,000) and Booth Wrapping Project (estimated budget $65,000). For the Bollard Cover Design, artists will create a series of covers for approximately 1,000 bright yellow bollards (ranging from 4" to 7" in diameter and 36" to 60" in height) that function as traffic calming devices throughout PortMiami. For the Booth Wrapping Project, artists will design artistic wraps for approximately 18 parking fee collection and information booths using high-quality vinyl sheets. Both designs should reflect the bustling activities of PortMiami and serve as a welcoming experience for passengers.
Eligibility: Open to experienced professional artists residing in the United States. Applications from architects, landscape architects, or other design professionals will not be considered unless included as part of an artist-led team. Miami-Dade employees and selection panelists and their immediate family members are excluded. Applicants must demonstrate innovative, contemporary and creative approaches to permanent, site-specific works. The program prioritizes the strength of the artist's concept, design capabilities, and established track record of museum/gallery exhibitions. Finalists will be paid an honorarium of $1,000 to develop specific proposals. The project timeline is time-sensitive, with completion expected by October 2013. All submissions must be received as a complete application by September 14, 2012. There is no application fee. Contact Brandi Reddick at 305.375.5436 or [email protected] for additional information.
